Samuel K. was born about 1803 in Beaufort Dist., SC.1 Samuel K.'s father was Macamee Mew and his mother was Ann Rutledge Smith. His paternal grandfather was Philip Mew; his maternal grandparents were James Smith and Margaret Moore Sanders. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Henry, John Pringle, Abraham, Alexander C., Sarah Ann, Mary Margaret, Harriet Elizabeth and Rebecca. He was the oldest of the nine children.1 -
