Harriet Elizabeth was born about 1824 in Beaufort Dist., SC.1 Harriet Elizabeth's father was Macamee Mew and her mother was Ann Rutledge Smith. Her paternal grandfather was Philip Mew; her maternal grandparents were James Smith and Margaret Moore Sanders. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Samuel K., Henry, John Pringle, Abraham, Alexander C., Sarah Ann, Mary Margaret and Rebecca. She was the third youngest of the nine children.1 -
