George Downing

George was born about 1604 in St. Mary Of the Tower, Ipswich, Suffolk, England.¹ George's father was George Downing and his mother was Dorcas Blois. His paternal grandparents were Jeffrey Downing and Elizabeth Wingfield; his maternal grandparents were William Bloys and Cecily Wingfield. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, John, Susan, Dorcas and Elizabeth. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Joshua, Joseph, Emanuel, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Elnathan, Nahomie and Anne.¹
