Harriet was born on April 12th, 1786 in "Blandfield," Essex County, Virginia.  Harriet's father was Robert Beverly and her mother was Marie Byrd Carter. She had nine brothers and six sisters, named William, Robert Carter Jr, Robert III, Burton, Carter Sr, Byrd, James Miles, Peter Randolph, McKenzie, Maria, Lucy, Anna Munford, Munford, Evelyn Byrd and Jane Bradshaw.  She was the youngest of the sixteen children.
