Maria was born about 1826 in Salisbury Twp., Northampton, PA. Maria's father was Jacob Troxell and her mother was Elizabeth Bleiler. Her paternal grandparents were Peter Troxell and Helena Catherine Schoener. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Reuben, Reuben Daniel, Franklin Washington, Ephraim Peter, Peter Ludwig, Helena, Catherine and Mary Ann. She was the second oldest of the nine children.
