Mary Garland was born about 1710 in Louisa Co., VA. Mary Garland's father was James Overton and her mother was Elizabeth Garland. Her paternal grandparents were William Overton and Elizabeth Overton Waters; her maternal grandparents are Edward Garland and Jane Jennings. She had a sister named Barbara Ann.
