Thompson was born on September 3rd, 1811 in Forbush, Surry, NC. Thompson's father was John Rhodes+ Hutchins and his mother was Elizabeth+ Vestal. His paternal grandparents were Nicholas+ Hutchins and Sarah+ Ladd; his maternal grandparents were Thomas+ Vestal and Amy+ Thompson. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Nicholas, Vestal, Zachary, Isaac, Rachel, Sarah, Amy+, Elizabeth and Rhoda. He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 73 on September 9th, 1884 in Dayton, Yamhill, Oregon.General Notes
