Thomas was born on July 20th, 1746 in Henrico, VA. Thomas' father was Strangeman+ Hutchins and his mother was Elizabeth+ Cox. His paternal grandparents were Nicholas+ Hutchins and Mary+ Holmes Watkins; his maternal grandparents were Richard+ Cox and Mary+ Trent. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named John, Nicholas+, Benjamin, Mary, Edith, Elizabeth, Obedience, Jane, Millicent and Lydia. He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
