Thomas was born on April 7th, 1787 in Yadkin, NC. Thomas' father was Thomas Hutchins and his mother was Susannah Ladd. His paternal grandparents were Strangeman+ Hutchins and Elizabeth+ Cox. He had a brother and two sisters, named Benjamin, Mary and Gulielma. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had two half-sisters named Nancy and Elizabeth.
