Conan, known as "le Grosse", was born in 1096 in Bretagne, Indre, France.  "le Grosse"'s father was Duke Alan Fergent IV of Brittany and his mother was Ermengarde d'Anjou.  His paternal grandparents were Duke Hoel de Cornuaille V of Bretagne and Heiress Hawise de Bretagne; his maternal grandfather was King Fulk ("Rechin") d'Anjou IV of Jerusalem and his maternal grandmother is Hildegarde de Beaugency. He had two sisters named Hawise and Hawise. He had a half-brother named Raymond.  He died at the age of 52 on September 17th, 1148.


"le Grosse"'s family with Princess Maud of England

‌"le Grosse" and Maud were married in a religious ceremony in March 1113.  They had two daughters named Constance and Bertha.
