Her paternal grandparents were PIERRE Mayeux and MARIANNE Bordelon; her maternal grandparents were ETIENNE BROYARD BARRE and GENEVIEVE DUGUE. She had a brother and five sisters, named Palmire, Antoinette, SCHOLASTIQUE, Claire, Hermina and Elmina. She died at the age of 36 on October 21st, 1855 in Te Bordeux, Avoyelles Par, Louisiana, USA. Emelia and Sosthene Alexander were married in a religious ceremony on December 3rd, 1833 in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana.1 They had four sons and four daughters, named Severe, Edgard, Sosthene Alexandre, Ovide Omer, Clementine, Evelina, Luce and Celinie.

Witnesses to the marriage were Narcisse Couvillon, Cyprien Couvillon, Zelien Mayeux, Francois Decuir, Pierre Couvillon. Religious ceremony for this marriage took place on April 19, 1835 at St. Paul's in Mansura. Father Etienne D'Hauw blessed the marriage.
They settled at "Te Bordeaux" near Cottonport, Louisiana where his brother, General Pierre, had recently acquired several tracts of land and had established himself. He had built his temporary house of split timbers with split cypress shingles for the roof and mother earth for the floor. His next task was to start cutting out the canes and trees in an attempt to clear some land on which he would plant his corn, indigo, and cotton .
The 1850 Census shows this couple living between Faustin & Antoinette Bordelon and Joseph Firmin. Children at home were: Clementine, Evelina, Luce, Severe, Edgar, Celina, Sosthene. Also living with them was 42 year old Roseline Barré (Emelie's widowed mother) and 14 year old Emina Mayeux ( Emelie's sister).
