Rene, a native of Flanders, France arrived at Old Biloxi on November 24, 1720. He signed a contract with the Company of the Indies to work in La. Accompanied by his two teenage daughters, he arrived at Old Biloxi aboard the vessel "Chameau". A census of the Company of the Indies, at New Orleans, dated December 9, 1721 shows him on a list of Company workers. His occupation is shown as "gazzoneur", a person who sows lawns and turf. New Orleans census of January 1723, shows his occupation as "excavator". On September 23, 1723 he is included in a list of workers who have fulfilled their contract with the Company and who asked to return to France. This list indicates that his two daughters are with him. Less than two weeks later his oldest daughter, Elizabeth married Jean Pierre Laurent. Rene second daughter, Ines married in 1724. Accompanied by his daughters and their husbands, they moved from New Orleans to Natchitoches Post about 1725.
