ETIENNE was born in Merge, Treve, Cambray, France.1 ETIENNE's father was ALBERT Decuir and his mother was Marie Catherine Dumaire. His paternal grandfather was SIMON DECUIRE and his paternal grandmother is MARGUERITE DEHON. He had a brother and two sisters, named Jean Francois, Anne Catherine and Marie Marguerite Joseph. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Albertus, Marie Marguerite Josephe and Marie Ludovica. He died on April 6th, 1747 in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. "Several transactions took place during the seven years of Etienne's life with Cecile Rondeau. He was an active young man, even though the records show that he was unable to write his name. In 1739 he is involved in a case regarding tobacco he has produced. He acted as sponsor at several baptisms, and in 1743 there is a case in the Superior Council regarding a debt he owed to one Cendrot. In 1745 he sells an arpent of land and a pirogue to Nicolas de la Cour. The census of 1745 gives us our last glimpse into his life. He is listed between the households of Jean Baptiste Rabalais and Nicolas de la Cour, owning eight slaves, a variety of animals, two muskets and a good bit of powder and lead shot, and a considerable amount of corn, beans, and tobacco grown on the fifty cultivated arpents."
