"Pierre Mayeux, the first of the name in Louisiana, came to the colony in 1720 from his native Maintenoy, in Picardy, abouard the "Profond" along with his wire Marie Scellier. Mayeux did not settle at Pointe Coupee however until 1731, after the massacre at Natchez. In the interim he was a pioneer settler at the Arkansas Post and at Natchez and at Natchez, as well as a year in New Orleans. By 1745 Mayeux was the owner of 22 slaves and had under cultivation 80 aprents of land. As such he was one of the wealthiest settlers in the area. By this time he had married his secon wife, Marie Francoise Manne, daughter fo Francois Manne and Isabeau Richard. There was no issue from this second marriage. Mayeux was literate, as evidenced by several documents in which he signed "Maieux". Pierre Mayeux and his first wife had six children, four of whom had issue. From these parents come all the Mayeuxs of today."
