Obedience French 
Obedience was born about 1814 in Virginia.1 Obedience's father was John S. French and her mother was Obedience 'Bedy' Clay. Her paternal grandparents were MATTHEW H. French and SARAH Payne; her maternal grandparents were Mitchel Clay and Phoebe Belcher. She had nine brothers and five sisters, named Ezekiel, William Madison, Charles Clay, James, George Pearis, John L., St. Clair, Hugh Caperton, Austin, Anna, Sarah, Orrie, Nancy and Rebecca. She was the youngest of the fifteen children. She died after 1860.1 -
