John S. French 
John S. was born about 1759 in Culpeper County, Virginia.1 John S.'s father was MATTHEW H. French and his mother was SARAH Payne. His paternal grandfather was JOHN C. FRENCH and his paternal grandmother is MARTHA FLINT; his maternal grandparents are JOHN PAYNE and SALLIE. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James Wilburn, Isaac M., DAVID Edwin, Martha M., Mary and Annie. He was the oldest of the seven children.
