Elias F was born in 1808 in Montgomery, North Carolina,. Elias F's father was Thomas "Elias" Butler and his mother was Sarah Thompson. His paternal grandparents were Christopher John Butler and Mary Catherine Martin. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Rueben, John Franklin, Neely, Joshua Daniel, James Martin, Elizabeth, Judith, Sarah, Mary C. and Judah. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He had five half-brothers named Rueben, John, James M, Elias H and Johnatan Nealy. He died at the age of 38 in 1846 in New Madrid County, Missouri,.General Notes
