His paternal grandparents were Gilbert de Clare IV Earl of Gloucester and Isabel , Countess of Hertford Marshall; his maternal grandparents were John De Lacy and Margaret De Quincy Countess Of Lincoln. He had a brother and a sister, named Gilbert "The Red" and Roese. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died in Thomond,Connaught,County Clare Ireland.General Notes
He was loyal to King Henry III, and helped Prince Edward to escape captivity after he had been captured at Lewes.
