Hawise de Meschines Countess of Lincoln 
Hawise was born in 1180 in Chester,Cheshire,England.1 Hawise's father was Hugh de Keveliock 3rd Earl of Chester and her mother was Bertrade (Beatrix) Evreux de Montfort. Her paternal grandparents were Ranulph Iv De Gernon Meschines and Maud Plantagenet De Caen FitzRobert; her maternal grandparents were Simon II D'Evreux De Montfort and Amice de Beaumont. She had a brother and eight sisters, named Ranulph De, Adeliz, Matilda, Amicia, Maud, Beatrix, Mabel de, Agnes and Nichola De. She was the second youngest of the ten children. She died before March 3rd, 1243. She was buried before March 3rd, 1242.1 General Notes

The Earldom of Lincoln was revived twenty years after the 2nd Earl's death in favour of his cousin, Ranulph Earl of Chester, who of course also had a long-standing connection with the county through their common ancestress Countess Lucy. Ranulph's prominent role in defeating the French invaders at the Battle of Lincoln earlier in 1217, the year he was made Earl of Lincoln, played a part in his elevation. Soon after Michaelmas 1230 he made over the Earldom to his sister Hawise, from whom it was conveyed to her son-in-law John de Lacy, the traffic in the dignity being approved by Henry III in both cases in the autumn of 1232.
