John Alexander Bailey kept a "JOURNAL" of most of the things he did among
people. He had four volumes. A descendant of his inherited these and she
found some items written in one about Rev. Webb Spradley.
From the Journal of John Alexander Bailey;
Item: November 7, 1914, we went to a box supper at Tavern Grove. A small
crowd but we had a nice time. Cake brought $17.00, boxes about $10.00.
Miss Spradley (Minnie) won first prize. Miss Nettie 2nd and Miss Millie
Alice Denson 3rd prize.
She grew up in Milam County, Texas. There was a box supper at her high
school where the family went. She won the high honor that night with her
box supper. She met and fell in love with William Thomas Johnson. They
were married. Minnie Lee lived a long time after William Thomas Johnson
died. She lived around El Campo and Rosenberg, Texas from the 1930's
until she died. Living part time with her younger daughter a lot in El
Campo. She went home to an appartment she was living in. She had been
having trouble with a cancer and her liver, and had yellow jaundice. She
became ill and went to the Nighten Gail Hospital there. She died there
soon afterward in early 1953.
