John Kirby Smith Spradley 
John Kirby Smith was born on March 4th, 1876 in Pike Co., AL.1 John Kirby Smith's father was Stephen Anderson Spradley and his mother was Avarilla Cathrine Castellaw. His paternal grandparents were James Stephen Spradley and Julia Boone; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Franklin Castellaw and Mary Louisa Jordan. He had five sisters named Ella Melissa, Mary Julia, Sarah Frances, Carrie Missouri and Ada Lee. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 63 on December 11th, 1939 in Pike Co., AL. He was buried in Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery, Shellhorn, Pike Co., AL..1 1 General Notes

Dear Ron, I am sorry that I have neglected you. My Thomas was here and I
just did not want to get to the computer. There was so much to type in
answer to your questions that I knew I would be "knocked" off and then I
get confused so I intended writing but have neglected that also. Mary
Wilson was Ray (Rushton?) Spradley's wife. Her mother and father lived
on William St. in Troy. Our family lived on that street and so did Foye
and her family. About John Kirby Smith Spradley---He was the only
brother of Aunt Ella and Mama. "Brother" was the name they used. He
signed as J. K. Spradley and was called by "Kirby. His 2nd wife of a few
months was Addie Knight( an old maid, as we would have said at that time)
Later he married Ida Wilkes who was another one of those...maids. His
first wife died fairly early in life. Uncle Kirby did not marry until
years later. He was married in Troy, AL both times. Uncle Kirby must
have been named for a Civil War Officer as I came across that name in a
book in the library at TSU-M about 2 years ago. "Miss Ida" is buried at
Hale's Chapel on the Luverne (e?) hwy 29. Of course, there were no
children from either of these unions. Miss Ida lived across the street
from us on William St. There may be more that you need but I don't have
your messages at the computer. Have I redeemed myself? Surely did miss
you at the Live Oak Cemetery meeting. Congratulations on listing the
markers. (A map of the grave sites was mentioned. I wonder if copies are
available. I did not have the opportunity to inquire. Your cousin
Gertrude. (If the trip to Troy with Foye does not work out maybe we could
meet at Foye's house. Maybe?)
