During my research I have seen Benjamin's surname spelt several ways -
Castellaw, Castellow, Castelow, and Castello. Gertrude P. Parnell (Great
Granddauther of Benjamin & Granddauther of  Avarilla) has Benjamin's last
name spelt Castellaw.  She has informed me that is how she was told it
was spelt. I received her records on August 20, 1996. When Benjamin
purchased land in Alabama, his surname was spelt Castellaw. The Lowndes
Co., AL Federal Census records of 1850 spelt his surname as Castello.  A
marriage record of Benjamin's daughter, Mary Frances to David Churchhill,
spelt it Castellow. Other records show that Benjamin's father spelt his
last name as Castellow. Thus it appears Benjamin's last name changed. Ron

Most of this information, that refers to the Benjamin Castellaw family
and Jordan Family, I received form Gertrude P. Parnell, the daughter of
Ada Lee (Spradley) Porath. Gertrude stated that her source:  Names found
on back of February, 1902 calendar, distributed by Queen Insurance
Company.  Birth places from 1870 Crenshaw County census.
On 28 Aug1838, CASTELLAW, BENJAMIN F  signed for the purchase of 39.25
acres in Crenshaw Co., AL.  The legal land descriptions:  Nr. 1;  Allquot
Parts: NWSW; Sec/Blk: 3; Township: 11-N; Range: 18-E; Fract. Sect.: N;
Meridian: St Stephens Meridian; Acres: 39.25; and County: Crenshaw. The
land office was Cahaba. Note: This record reflects the county boundries
of AL today.  That part of Crenshaw County was part of Lowndes Co., AL
when the land was purchased. Crenshaw County did not become a county
until 1866.
On 1 Dec 1852, CASTELLAW, BENJAMIN F  signed for the purchase of 39.75
acres in Crenshaw Co., AL.  The legal land descriptions:  Nr. 1;  Allquot
Parts: SWSE; Sec/Blk: 20; Township: 11-N; Range: 18-E; Fract. Sect.: N;
Meridian: St Stephens Meridian; Acres: 39.75; and County: Crenshaw. The
land office was Cahaba. Note: This record reflects the county boundries
of AL today.  That part of Crenshaw County was part of Lowndes Co., AL
when the land was purchased.

It shoud be noted that my research shows that Benjamin and Mary were
married in Lowndes Co., AL.
