Dorcas was born in 1822 in Camden, Kershaw Co., SC.1 Dorcas' father was Bryant A. Spradley and her mother was Frances Payne. Her paternal grandparents were James, Sr. Spradley and Mary Manning; her maternal grandparents were John Payne and Sarah Shiver. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named James Stephen, John William, Samuel, Manning C., Bryant Eugene, William, Thomas Harrison, Martha A., Mary Elizabeth and Mahaza Ellen. She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 30 in 1852 in Montgomery Co., AL.1 General Notes
