Mary Jane Rushing 
Mary Jane was born on December 26th, 1839 in Troy, Pike Co., AL.1 Mary Jane's father was William Cain Rushing and her mother was Mary Ann Rushing. Her paternal grandparents were Mathew Malachi Rushing and Elizabeth Thornhill. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Mathew M. (Mack), John Eager Howard, Thomas A., Joseph T., Solomon James, Stephen McDonald, Henry Oscar, Elizabeth Pheebe, Susannah, Lucinda S. and Pleasant F.. She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children. She had two half-sisters named Elizabeth and Minnie. She died at the age of 93 on November 14th, 1933 in Mart, McLennan, TX. Theophilus and Mary Jane, with their children left Alabama in a two mule
wagon in 1875, the wagon carrying all their belongings and seed. They
came to Lost Prairie, Limestone County, Texas.
Four years later, 1879, they purchased seventy-six and a half acres and
all improvements for one hundred dollars cash and twenty-eight bales of
cotton.
