I have one record that lists W. L. Y. Logan married a S. V. Smith 16 Mar
1865 in Coosa Co., AL by Elias Kelly, JP.
Ron,
William Lyons Yancy Logan (my GreatGranddad) has a Granddaughter in her
late 80's alive in Birmingham. She told me about W.L.Y. Logan. Her Mother
was the daughter of Yancy, Etta Logan Davis and when she was very small a
group of men on horses rode up to their house in Fayette/Tuscaloosa Co.
AL one night and Yancy rode away with them and never returned. We do not
know where he was buried, Virginia Ann Smith Logan his wife who was from
Ga.and buried in Hopewell Cementery off Hwy 43 near the
Tuscaloosa/Fayette County line. That is where the "OLD" Henry Logan who
was born May 17,1792,died April 2,1874 is buried. (tombstone)
Ron,
My Grandfather was Yancy's son and he John Henry Logan killed a man in
Fayette Co. Al and ran over to Ark. to keep the law from catching him.
The man he killed was his wife's brother Samuel Duncan in 1905,they were
both sceretly dating the same woman. Grandmother took my mother and her
two sisters to Danville Ark. to live with him and later my mom's brother
was born. he died and she buried him there, then moved back to Fayette
Co. This was all never talked about, not even my mother ever told us
kids. I got to digging and found out after they were all deceased.
Virginia Ann Smith's parents were Soloman Smith from Georgia. Her mother
was Julia Ann Warren from S.C. They are listed in the 1860 Coosa Co.
Census on page 88. Julia Ann Warren Smith.. married the OLD man Henry
Logan last and had a couple children by him. I have papers where she
fought his older
children for part pf his estate. Thank you so much and let me know if I
can help you understand my side. Where did you find Yancy was buried? I
think my Logans were sorta outlaws in those days. Yancy was suppose to be
carried of by the group called Night Riders so his granddaughter said.
Thanks,Betty J. Hickman
