My Grandmother had a very small kitchen and that's the way she wanted it.
And that is why Granddaddy built it that small. I heard her say one time
that her small kitchen kept others out when she was in there, and she
didn't have to move far to reach for something.  Her kitchen had special
memories for me. I saw for the first time how preserves were made and the
process of canning. When she was canning or making preserves, she
orchestrated the whole kitchen into frenzy.  Pots boiled. Utensils
clicked and dang.  Smells of fruits or vegetables had no choice but to
rush out of her confined kitchen.  The electric water pump had to work
overtime. Water for boiling, water for cleaning, and water for drinking.
It got hot in that kitchen. Jokingly, Granddaddy said, "It's a wonder the

"Mrs. Myrtle E. H. Sullivan
A graveside service for Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Harding Sullivan, 78,
of RDF 2, Spotsylvania was held at 1 p. m. today at Craig's Baptist
Church. With the Rev. Oscar Emrick officiating.
Mrs. Sullivan, a native of Spotsylvania County, died of pneumonia
Friday at Mary Washington Hospital.  She was a homemaker.  She was a
widow of Leslie C. Sullivan.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil B. Sullivan of Spotsylvania and
Rodney D. Sullivan of Stafford; one daughter, Ms. Shirley A. Sullivan of
Oceanside, Calif.; two brothres, Ted R. Harding of Spotsylvania and
Chester R. Harding of Arlington; one sister, Mrs. Edmonia C. Stone of
Spotsylvania, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Allen Sullivan, Willard Chewning, Henry Clay
Chewning, Bruce Bridges, Robert Strickler and William L. Howard.
Johnson Funeral Home in Locust Grove was in charge of funeral
arrangements."
