Joan was born about 1379 in Falkland Castle,Fifeshire,Scotland.  Joan's father was Duke Robert Stewart Of Albany and her mother was Countess Margaret Graham Of Menteith.  Her paternal grandparents were King Robert II Stewart Of Scotland, Earl Of Atholl and Elizabeth Mure Of Rowallon; her maternal grandparents were Earl John Graham Of Menteith and Countess Mary Stewart Of Menteith. She had a brother and a sister, named Murdach and Margaret Maris.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Marjory Marcelline.

‌Joan and Robert were married in a religious ceremony on September 27th, 1397 in Dispensation date.1   They had a son and a daughter, named John and Miss.
