Hugh was born in 1216. Hugh's father was Hugh Le Bigod and his mother was Maud Matilda Marshall. His paternal grandparents were Roger Le Bigod and Ida Plantagenet; his maternal grandparents were Earl William II (The Protector) Marshall Of Pembroke and Countess Isabel De Clare Of Strigoil. He had five brothers and a sister, named Ralph, Roger, John, William, Simon and Isabel. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named John.-
