Joseph Alfred Combest 
Joseph Alfred was born on October 10th, 1896 in St.Paul, Marion County, Oregon.1 Joseph Alfred's father was Thomas Riley Combest and his mother was Louisa Ellen Bennett. His paternal grandparents were Wiley Combest and Martha Hammond; his maternal grandparents were Erastus Bennett and Harriet Tuckey. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William Wiley, Ira Arthur, Sidney John, Thomas Everett, Lloyd Francis, Rena Ellen and Grace Amy. He was the youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 71 on November 8th, 1967 in Gold Beach, Curry County, Oregon.1 General Notes

As a child Joe moved with his mother to Houston, Texas. About 1915, Joe
moved to California and, in 1917, joined the U.S. Army. After WWI, Joe
returned to Oregon, where he worked in logging camps in the southern part
of the state.
On Sept 1, 1920, Joe married Lora Pearl Crockett in Marshfield (now Coos
Bay), Coos County, Oregon. This marriage was shortlived and ended in
divorce. Subsequently, Joe moved to California.
After he and Ruth's marriage they lived in California for a few years,
then, in 1934, moved to Port Orford, Curry County, Oregon.
Joseph is buried in the Port Orford Cemetery, Port Orford, Oregon.
