Gertrude Alva was born on July 17th, 1903.1 Gertrude Alva's father was Joel Shadrack Dickinson and her mother was Hattie Eugenia Hooks Elmore Mays. Her paternal grandparents were Joel Dickinson and Clarissa Almira Rippetoe. She had two brothers and a sister, named Archie Alfred, Henry Ernest and Amie Veron. She had seven half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Joel Edwin, Thomas E. "Tommy", William O. "Willie", James Lafayette, John "Charley", David "Daniel", A. Leonidas "Lonza", Mary Clarissa, Eula L. and Sarah Bell. She died at the age of 25 in 1928.1 General Notes
