Samuel Hancock 
Samuel was born on July 23rd, 1796 in Franklin County, North Carolina. Samuel's father was John Hancock and his mother was Jane Skeen. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Hancock and Mildred Dawson; his maternal grandparents were Matthew Skeen and Ruth Lamar. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Mathew, John, Martin, Benjamin, Judge, Jane, Sarah and Kathy. He was the oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 50 on July 17th, 1847 in Harrison County, Indiana. He was buried in Hancock Chapel Cemetery, Harrison County, Indiana.General Notes
Transcript of portion of letter dated 12 March 1848 to Osburn Lamar Wilson from William Hancock (they are 2nd cousins):
"Sickness -- this has been rageing through our country during the whole winter to an alarming extent in the character of Sypes fever -- Uncle Samuel Hancock his son George you recollect that took that ride with us to Palmyra & was so gentlemanly and Social & his Son James, Daughter Nancy, all died within the Short Space of 4. months of this fatal disease -- there were no other deaths in the connection -- yet there has been much Sickness. I was attacked with this disease in July last, from which I never recovered till in Dec."
