John Hancock 
John was born on October 16th, 1799 in Franklin County, North Carolina. John's father was John Hancock and his mother was Jane Skeen. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Hancock and Mildred Dawson; his maternal grandparents were Matthew Skeen and Ruth Lamar. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Mathew, Martin, Benjamin, Judge, Jane, Sarah and Kathy. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 73 on June 24th, 1873 in Harrison County, Indiana. He was buried in Hancock Chapel Cemetery, Harrison County, Indiana.General Notes
Transcript of portion of letter dated 12 March 1848 to Osburn Lamar Wilson from William Hancock, son of Elizabeth Hooker Mills and Mathew Hancock (Osburn and William are 2nd cousins):
"I have not heard from your fathers family Since you left for Mexico. My Sister Mary Jane was maried on the 11. of March 1847 to R. Roberts of Floyd County. Rebecker Ann in September last to Mr. Thomas Jackson a Step Son of Uncle John Hancock. Hooker & Jonathan are keeping a country Store. I am yet bachelor an keeping School of winters. School for last winter was out in February not much probability of marying."

John Hancock married his first wife, Martha B. King on 27 January 1820. Martha B. King (the daughter of the Reverend Benjamin King and Martha Haywood) was born 7 November 1801 in Washington County, Indiana, and died 28 April 1839 in Harrison County, Indiana.
John Hancock's second wife, Mary Kearns, was married first to William Jackson. Mary and William's oldest son, Thomas Kerns Jackson, married Mathew Hancock's (John Hancock's brother) and Elizabeth Hooker Hancock's daughter, Rebecca Ann.
