William Sylvester Benton

William Sylvester was born in 1825 in Colleton County, SC.¹   William Sylvester's father was John Benton and his mother was Martha (Mattie) Hudson.  His maternal grandfather was William Hudson?. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph C., Edward H., Child, Martha, Arthie and Vinnie. He had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James Oliver, Benjamin Gaines, Henry Richard, Mack Doran, Berry Garris, Remmy, Susan Ann, Jane and Mary.¹
