Edward Preston was born in 1838. Edward Preston's father was Meredith Bluford Mahanes and his mother was Elizabeth W. Smith. His paternal grandparents were Lewis Augusta Mahanes and Drucilla Brockman. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Edwin, William Preston, Meredith Marshall, Martha W., Mary, Victoria, Claudia N., Emily M., Pattie, Virginia Overton and Elizabeth Cowles. He was the oldest of the twelve children.-
