Josiah was born in 1798.  Josiah's father was Richard Forrester and his mother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cotham.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Cotham and Elizabeth Griffin. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Hezekiah, Silas, Jeremiah, Arthur, Richard, Laura, Dinah, Lucinda and Sarah Virginia.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 72 in 1870.
