Arthur was born in 1814.  Arthur's father was Richard Forrester and his mother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cotham.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Cotham and Elizabeth Griffin. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Hezekiah, Josiah, Silas, Jeremiah, Richard, Laura, Dinah, Lucinda and Sarah Virginia.  He was the eighth oldest of the ten children.
