Robert, known as Robert, was born in 1838 in Muscogee Co, Georgia.  Robert's father was Wiley CANNON and his mother was Charlotte SHEPPARD.  His paternal grandparents were Nathaniel CANNON and Frances SUMNER. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, Lemuel, Wherry Or Whorry, Lewis, John, Elbert, David, Jessie, Melissa, Zilpha and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.
