John Newis

John was born in June 1861 in Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.¹ John's father was John Newiss and his mother was Mary Turner. His paternal grandparents were William Newis and Ursula Kitson; his maternal grandparents were Phillip Turner and Ellen (Unknown). He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas Ibbotson, Thomas Ibotson, Thomas, Elizabeth, Hannah and Priscilla. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
