William was born in 1810 in Laverton, Kirkby Malzeard, Yorkshire, England.1   William's father was James Newis.  He had a brother and a sister, named James and Ann.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Ann.  He died  due to Pneumonia at the age of 71 on February 27th, 1881 in Union Workhouse, Ripon.  His burial was on March 2nd, 1881.
