Laverne was born on March 16th, 1873 in Dundee, MI.¹ Laverne's father was William Henry Rankin and his mother was Amy Ursla Kimpton. His paternal grandparents were Orlean Rankin and Hannah Miller. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Myron, Elmer, Dewitt, Alta, Amy, Marietta, Margaret, Henrietta, Grace, Flora and Blanche. He was the third oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 75 on December 22nd, 1948.²
