Alta was born on August 17th, 1869 in Dundee, MI. Alta's father was William Henry Rankin and her mother was Amy Ursla Kimpton. Her paternal grandparents were Orlean Rankin and Hannah Miller. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Myron, Laverne, Elmer, Dewitt, Amy, Marietta, Margaret, Henrietta, Grace, Flora and Blanche. She was the oldest of the twelve children. She died at the age of 70 on December 9th, 1939.¹
