Laderina was born in 1241 in Yorkshire, England. Laderina's father was Robert VI the Competitor de Bruce and her mother was Isabel de Clare. Her paternal grandparents were Robert V de Bruce and Isobella Dunkeld le Scot of Huntington; her maternal grandparents were Gilbert the Younger de Clare and Isabella Marshal. She had four brothers named Robert VII, Richard, William and Bernard of Conington and. She was the oldest of the five children. She had a half-sister named Christina.
