William I was born on August 17th, 1152 in Woodstock Manor, England.  William I's father was Henry II Curtmantle FitzEmpress of England and his mother was Rosamund de Clifford.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey V the Fair Plantagenet of Anjou and Matilda the Empress of England; his maternal grandparents were Walter FitzRichard Fitzpons de Clifford and Margaret de Toeni. He had two brothers named Geoffrey and Peter. He had eight half-brothers and five half-sisters, named William of, Richard I Coeur de Lion of, Geoffrey II Plantagenet of, John I Plantagenet Lackland of, Henry the Young King of, Morgan of, Hugh of, Richard, Matilda (Maud), Eleanor, Joan, Daughter and Matilda of.  He died in Mansourah, Nile or Salisbury Castle,Salisbury,Wiltshire,England.  He was buried in Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.

‌William I and Ela FitzPatrick were married in a religious ceremony in 1198.  They had four sons and four daughters, named William II, Stephen, Nicholas, Richard, Isabel, Iodonea, Lora and Petronilla.
