Mary was born in 1794 in South Ferriby, Lincoln, England and her christening took place there on April 20th, 1794.  Mary's father was Joseph Rack and her mother was Elizabeth Thompson.  Her paternal grandparents were William Rack and Eleanor Lamin. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Ellen, Dinah and Bessey.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
