Susan was born in 1865 in Illinois. Susan's father was Francis Marion Webb and her mother was Emily Horsey (Webb). Her paternal grandparents were John Webb and Elizabeth A. Mayfield (Webb). She had two brothers and a sister, named John, Julius and Eva. She was the second oldest of the four children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Otto, Frank, Daniel, Daisy and Victoria.
