Floyd was born in 1895 in Illinois. Floyd's father was George P. Robb and his mother was Mary Catherine Hooten (Robb). His maternal grandparents were James Martin Hooten and Harriet Ann Webb (Hooten). He had three brothers and two sisters, named Harry, Clarence, Clyde, Myrtle and Ivah. He was the second oldest of the six children.
