Maerten was born in 1719 in Zegwaart (Zoetermeer) and his baptism took place on February 12th, 1719 in Zevenhuizen (ZH).1  Maerten's father was Maarten Jacobszn Rodenburg and his mother was Pleuntje Jansdr Lelijveld.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Arentszn Rodenburg and Trijntge Maartensdr Hogerscheijt; his maternal grandparents were Jan Dirkszn Lelijveld and Maartje Leendertsdr Vrijenoock. He had three brothers and a sister, named Jacob Maertenszn, Willem, Dirck Maertenszn and Trijntje.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Arij, Maarten, Pleuntje, Trijntje and Ariaantje.
