Arien was born in October 1718 in Aalburg and his baptism took place there on October 9th, 1718.1  Arien's father was Caspar Jacobszn Mans and his mother was Maria Hendriks Verdoorn.  His paternal grandparents were Jacobus Mans and Michieltje Dirckx; his maternal grandparents were Hendrik Janszn Verdoorn and Magdalena Ariens van der Flier. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Jakobus, Hendrik, Hermannus Wilhelmus, Jan, Willem, Philip, David, Giliana Caspers, Johanna and Magdalena.  He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.
