Jan Harmenszn was born in January 1773 and his baptism took place on January 17th, 1773 in Lochem.1  Jan Harmenszn's father was Harmen Buijrink and his mother was Adriana Scholten.  His paternal grandparents were Berent Burink and Jenneken Nieuwenhuijs; his maternal grandparents were Hendrik Scholten and Harmina Harking. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Gerrit Jan, Hendrik Harmenszn, Berend Harmenszn, Jenneken Hermansdr, Jenneken and Janna.
