Herman was born in December 1677 in Swijp and his baptism took place on December 2nd, 1677 in Lochem.1   His godfather was Henric Burinc and his godmother was Berentijen Kouwbergh. Herman's father was Berent Burinck and his mother was Otjen Schulten.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Burinck and N.N. N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Schulten and N.N. N.N.. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Jan, Goossen, Trientjen and Jenneken.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
